“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
Psalm 34:18 NLT

Have you ever experienced a time of brokenness?

Of course, you have; we all have brokenness in our lives.

Yet, we live in a world that is so quick to discard the broken. Just recently, a table fell off the back of a truck and rather than examine it, the owner was discarding it. So I asked, “Can I take a look and see if it can be restored?” The owner said, “Please take it, it’s yours.” After repairing a few screws and straightening some bent metal, I have an excellent, useful working table in my garage!

The point is that God knows our brokenness, but He chooses to get closer to us and restore us. He loves us unconditionally, and His care for us is relentless.

Our brokenness does not mean it’s over. God sees our brokenness, and His desire is to give us beauty for ashes and turn our mourning into dancing. So let’s put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness and allow God’s closeness even in our brokenness.

If you are brokenhearted for any reason, please know that God cares more than you can imagine. I pray that He is drawing up close to you as you read and meditate upon Psalm 34:18.

On this Thanksgiving, I’m so grateful for you, and I’m so thankful that God comes even closer to us in our brokenness. He never leaves us, nor forsakes us.

You are loved,
President Steve Holder
